Mindy Kaling on Feeling Confident in a Swimsuit

Mindy Kaling has teamed up with the Andie Swim brand, close to the body and ethically honest, for a new line of swimwear for the coming summer. Mindy x Andie includes 33 different collaboratively designed pieces, with a mix of Kaling’s favorite silhouettes, fabrics and colors — all of which she knows very well since she has been a long-time follower of the Label.

Kaling was sure to work in textured swimsuits (because it makes her more confident) while also experimenting with balconette bras and textured high-leg pants. “For swimwear, I always need both comfort and style — both are non-negotiable,” she told POPSUGAR exclusively in an interview before the launch on May 10. The full range costs between $52 and $128 AndieSwim.com , although the 43-year-old mother of two will probably post a lot of her favorite looks on Instagram, as she does with her most colorful outfits.

Kaling, who recently received the National Medal of Arts at the White House on March 21, is celebrated several times for her work on television and as a writer. The producer of “I Never” received the prestigious Norman Lear award at the Producer Guild of America Awards in February. The swimsuit designer is therefore just one of the many distinctions that she can now display in her Summary.

From a fashion point of view, Kaling recently worked with Jonathan Simkhai on her Look for the Met Gala 2023 red carpet, which included a textured peplum corset that fell elegantly in a floor-length train and was layered over a column skirt with sequins and pearls. She complemented the Ensemble with Fred Leighton and Kwiat jewelry, a Jennifer Behr crystal ponytail holder and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes at the ball on the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: a Line of Beauty”. Although we are used to seeing her share clips of glamorous events like these, the news of Mindy x Andie should make her want to present to her feed much more casual beachwear and adapted to the seasons that start and end with her favorites from the collection.

Mindy Kaling on the design of her first bath collection

POPSUGAR: This is your first collaboration in a swimsuit. What was most important to you, whether it was a Silhouette, a color palette or something else?

Mindy Kaling: I love jewel tones and yellow, so integrating these colors into the collaboration was a dream. I also have two children, and there are certain silhouettes that work with my body that make me feel confident. Andie has always made the most flattering suits, and it was so exciting to work with them to create my own versions of their awesome swimsuits.

Mindy Kaling on her favorite swimsuit Figure

PS: What is your favorite swimsuit Silhouette and how did you weave it into the collection?

MK: my favorite silhouette changes depending on the day, but nothing knockdown a well-made and well-fitting piece. With swimwear, I always need both comfort and style — neither is negotiable. Since Andie has been my favorite swimming brand in recent years, my favorites were Amalfi and Malibu [see above]. I added these styles to the collection in fun new colors.

Mindy Kaling on finding the right swimsuit color

PS: You are such a colorful person and you have always experimented with the color wheel. How do you think you will find the right swimsuit color that matches her personality?

MK: That’s such a nice compliment! I love color, and I think it’s one of the ways to express my personal style. Swimming is a very good opportunity to have fun and play with colors, so I recommend that you try on shades that you may not wear on a daily basis. Although I must say that I also like a black swimsuit. I think it can be really chic. So I had to include that too.

Mindy Kaling on the most surprising pieces of the collection

PS: after trying one of the pieces, were you delighted or particularly inspired?

MK: We worked on the collection for more than a year and I tested each iteration of the Designs for fit, so I wasn’t surprised by anything special. But I loved the way the dress and the cardigan work like clothes in real life and at the beach.

Mindy Kaling on self-confidence in a swimsuit

PS: Do you have any tips for feeling safe at the beach this summer in a swimsuit?

MK: find out what makes your body feel good and express your personal style. When I can express myself and put together an outfit that I really think is me, that’s when I’m most confident.
