The Perfect Bronzer for Every Skin Tone

I’m just going to say it: finding the right bronzer for your skin tone can be difficult if you’re not white. I struggled for years to find a bronzer that, until recently, actually appeared on my brown skin. I tested a handful of bronzers from some of my favorite brands, and I may have found the Holy Grail. I was particularly impressed by everyone’s gain in pigment, something that had been a big problem for me in the past. A lot of darker bronzers end up being the same color as my skin, but not this one!

Don’t Worry. I’m not in Gatekeeping. I’m sharing details about the six formulas that stood out below, as well as some bronzers that makeup artists love for darker skin tones. Keep scrolling. There is certainly a formula for you.

Best overall: Fenty Beauty Sun stem Instant thermal bronzer

Advantages: wide range of colors, resistant to transfer, smooth and easy to mix.

Cons: The powdered formula may be too dry for some.

Fenty’s Sun stem was one of the first Bronzers I ever tried. Yes, it’s a powdered formula that may be a little dry for some, but the color palette is so versatile and the formula is super easy to mix.

Customer review:”I love this bronzer. The formula mixes like butter and allows you to brown perfectly without looking muddy!”

LYS Beauty No Limits bronzing Cream and Contour Pencil

Advantages: the cream formula mixes easily, leaves a second silky finish and contains moisturizing active ingredients for skin care.

Disadvantages: very pigmented. I recommend starting and building with a very small amount.

The Crème de LYS Beauty tanning stick is one of my favorites for darker skin tones. I’m wearing it in the photo above and I feel like it adds the perfect amount of cosy without looking chalky or mushy. It also blends like a dream-I use a brush with it, and it just melts into the skin.

House Labs Power Sculpt Velvetbronzer

Benefits: The formula creates a skin-like finish and contains moisturizing squalane to protect and nourish the skin. Highly pigmented paint with a wide color palette.

Cons: None.

I’ve spent enough time talking about the Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Foundation ($45), but the brand’s Power Sculpt bronzer also deserves some serious love. The pigment gain is absolutely beautiful and the shades available make it an excellent choice for darker skin tones.

Chanel les Beiges bronzing cream for a healthy shine

Advantages: The unique cream-Gel formula creates a perfect cosy and sunny glow with light-reflecting pigments.

Cons: the color scheme could be better, expensive.

I recently tried this creamy bronzer from Chanel, but the color impressed me. I realize that this doesn’t have the most impressive color palette, but I love that it creates such a natural and sunny glow on the skin. The darker shade worked incredibly well for my olive brown skin, but I’m not sure I would recommend it to those with a slightly darker shade.
